Last Friday, I actually finished up my synchro season for this year. I remember hearing about the season for this year and thought about how extremely dreadful it was to start this season since it was being altered so much. It also didn't help that by then I got a little too cozy staying at home. In hindsight, it was time well-spent trying to work through the days and always being unsure if practice would still go on the next day.
Honestly, I thought I would be happy to see it all over after enduring three long years of swimming, but I ended up being sad over how much I'll miss this routine I've been accustomed to for so long. It definitely wouldn't have been the same if I simply watched the season go on this year and listened to verbal descriptions or watched live streams. It was a pain, but I have to admit that enduring all these years of challenges gave me the ability to look at and appreciate the wonderful memories and my growth.
Even though we've had all the unusual changes this year, at least for us as seniors, everything's almost near the end. Happy or sad, I'll miss a lot of the things I did in high school no matter how much I despised it or complained about it.
Here's a little poem that I thought of now that we've overcome a lot and only have a bit left until the end of this year as high schoolers:
To start means to search for the end
A never-ending tunnel of twists and turns
Of darker areas too deep to turn back
A weary body growing heavy with emptiness
Eyes drooping, with lids forced to unclose
The imprinted footsteps that track my path
My journey of hopelessness
That found its hint of light
