Why Am I Who I Am?

I used to take loads of personality tests, mostly BuzzFeed ones, for fun. The results generally always came back saying something along the lines of "You are an introvert! You are the type to...."

I knew I couldn't trust a lot of the silly quizzes I took, especially the obscure ones that determine my personality based on my choice of ice cream. Even so, I generally took them because I've always thought that it's hard to piece together who I am into words. Seeing those same simple results didn't seem satisfying as answers, so I kept taking these random quizzes and just received similar results almost each time.

Eventually, I reached the 16 Personalities Test. I took this way back when, but all I actually did was skim through my results. I walked into that test knowing I was pretty much an introvert from all those simple 5-question quizzes I took prior to that one, but I realize now that I was solely taking into account my general and simple identity.

Even at the time I took it, it's been so long since I tried to analyze myself instead of a character in a play or book. I wasn't really prepared to see all these words and details about me, especially due to the fact I took a lot of quizzes that had a huge gap in the level of analysis.

Last week in class, we talked about complex identity, and a couple of personality tests were brought up. Of course I took the 16 Personalites Test (again), but I took it for real - being aware that there were so many other factors that attribute to my specific personality.

Seeing all the components put into categories and having everything layed out for me led me to a greater sense of myself. Identity is something that's unique to a person. Uncovering all those traits and characteristics, no matter how different they may be, connect and intertwine to form the whole that someone is.
